The world may never have known about Rosie O'Donnell's sexuality or her relationship with Kelli Carpenter, were it not for state laws banning same-sex couples from adopting and tough talk about gay marriage from the Bush Administration, that prompted the comedianne to speak out for gay rights and reveal the details of her relationship. Though O'Donnell became vocal about the happy moments of life with Kelli (adopting a son, having a daughter, marrying in San Fran), she said absolutely nothing about her separation from Carpenter until two years after the fact.
