William Pawley Jr.
William Pawley Jr. was the son of a wealthy American ambassador to Peru. He was 28 when he met the 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor in Florida and became her first fiancé. The couple's relationship was a dramatic story that tantalized Hollywood at the early height of Taylor's fame.
Their romance was documented in detail by Taylor a series of love letters she sent to Pawley in 1949. Those letters were put up for auction soon after Taylor's death in 2011.
